About North Coast Adventures
North Coast Adventures is a new Lake Superior fishing charter based along Minnesota's beautiful North Shore, founded on a lifelong passion for fishing and the outdoors. While the business is new, it represents a dream that has been years in the making.
Owner and captain James Coleman is dedicated to providing every guest with a safe, enjoyable, and memorable experience on the water. Whether it's a first-time angler or someone with years of fishing experience, every trip is tailored to showcase the beauty of Lake Superior while creating lasting memories.
To celebrate the launch of North Coast Adventures, introductory pricing is available at $400 for a half-day charter and $800 for a full-day charter. It's a way to welcome new guests, build lasting relationships, and make world-class fishing on Lake Superior more accessible.
Guests will fish aboard a 2004 Trophy Pro 2359, a fully enclosed pilothouse vessel designed for comfort, safety, and performance in a variety of conditions. The boat is equipped with Big Jon downriggers, Garmin marine electronics, and premium Okuma rods and reels, providing everything needed for a successful day on the water.
From the moment guests step aboard, North Coast Adventures is committed to delivering a professional, personalized fishing experience that showcases the very best of Minnesota's North Shore.
About the Captain
For Captain James Coleman, the water has always felt like home. James has been playing in and on the water since he was a young boy. He spent countless days exploring Minnesota’s lakes and fishing many of the waters that make the state famous as the Land of 10,000 Lakes. Over the years, he has also fished in several other states, enjoying the opportunity to learn new techniques.
His love of the water naturally led him to sailing. James has captained his own sailboat on Lake Superior, made a voyage down the Mississippi River from Minnesota to St. Louis, and currently serves as captain aboard the Hjordis for the North House Folk School in Grand Marais. There, he enjoys sharing the history, culture, and natural beauty of Lake Superior, the boreal forest, and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCA), helping others develop a deeper appreciation for this remarkable region.
Fishing has always remained one of James’s greatest passions. Along the way, fellow anglers and respected local guides generously shared their knowledge and experience with him. Their mentorship helped give him the confidence and foundation to launch North Coast Adventures, where he now shares his love of fishing and the North Shore with others.
Raised on a farm and working as a master tradesman, James is known for his strong work ethic, practical skills, and willingness to lend a hand. He also serves as a volunteer firefighter and first responder for Lutsen Township, reflecting his long-standing commitment to serving and supporting his community.
Whether you’re an experienced angler or picking up a fishing rod for the first time, James looks forward to welcoming you aboard, sharing what he’s learned, and helping you enjoy an unforgettable day on Lake Superior.
